P1030670 Kenngruppen
By Michael Hörenberg
Message P1030670 is encoded with the naval "Reservehandverfahren" cipher system. But how do we know this? Let's take a look at it. The serial number (Uhrzeitgruppe) 1224/62 of this particular message is mentioned in two other U534 messages. Both messages P1030689 and P1030713 have a similar content. They tell us, that 1224/62 is encoded with RHV. Message P1030689 also copy the content of P1030670. Additionally P1030670 does not decode with the Enigma daily key of 01. May 1945 (Key Potsdam).
![]() Envelope "Quelle"But there's another way to check whether P1030670 is RHV: The Kenngruppen (indicator groups). To do this, we need the original secrect cipher documents from 1945! The procedure is also described here. |
![]() substitution table selection chart for indicator groups "Bruno" May 1945We need: - The Tauschtafelplan für Kenngruppen (substitution table selection chart for indicator groups) - The Tauschtafeln (a set of bigram substitution tables for "Kenngruppen" e.g. "Quelle") - The Kenngruppenbuch (K-Book) - The Zuteilungsliste für Kenngruppen (indicator group selection chart) |
![]() Tauschtafel "Quelle" A (1)First we decode the indicator group (Kenngruppe) QQGK ECLZ with the bigram substitution table A (1) and table A (2) from "Quelle". QQ --> MS GK --> ZU EC --> PD LZ --> TN |
![]() Tauschtafel "Quelle" A (2)(M) Z P T Schlüsselkenngruppe S U D (N) Verfahrenkenngruppe |
KBook GruppenlisteIn part 2 of the K-Book, Gruppenliste of the Kenngruppenbuch (list of groups) we find that Z P T equals to 211 16. RHV and the number 211 of the "Schlüsselkenngruppe" is also mentioned on the original cipher form. |
![]() Zuteilungsliste KenngruppenThe Zuteilungsliste für Kenngruppen (indicator group selection chart) tells us: 201 - 250 is RHV ! |
